The Gran Sasso d'Italia is the highest mountain massif in the Apennines, located in the Abruzzo region. Its main peak, Corno Grande, reaches an altitude of 2,912 meters, making it the highest mountain on the Italian mainland. The entire massif is part of the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park, a protected area known for its rich biodiversity and breathtaking landscapes.

Gran Sasso is a popular destination for hikers, climbers, and skiers. In summer, the trails offer stunning views of valleys and mountain lakes. In winter, the ski resort of Campo Imperatore attracts skiers and snowboarders.

Moreover, Gran Sasso hosts the Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso, one of the world's most important underground research centers.
