R O C C A C A L A S C I O
Rocca Calascio is a fortress located in the municipality of Calascio, in the province of L’Aquila, Abruzzo. Situated at approximately 1,460 meters above sea level, it is among the highest castles in Italy and is considered one of the region’s symbols. The fortress, entirely built of local white stone, comprises a central keep surrounded by a defensive wall with four corner towers. Its strategic position allowed control over the surrounding valleys and transhumance routes.
